Kate MacLean

Occupational Therapist / Explore Therapy Director

My name is Kate I am a passionate Occupational Therapist that has worked with children with special needs in New Zealand and overseas. I have always had an interest in helping people from a very young age. I moved to the United Kingdom at 18 years to volunteer at a special needs centre. This is where I was introduced to Occupational Therapy and where the love for Occupational Therapy and assisting people with special needs grew. Following this I have enjoyed working at special schools throughout New Zealand and when in Melbourne, Australia I gained a huge amount of experience consulting at a well respected Paedatric Clinic. My experience is with paediatrics ranging from toddlers to 23 year olds. My main reason for returning home, is to provide a service that can come to your child and help them achieve their goals in the environment they are struggling with (home, school, kindergarten etc.). I takes pride in supporting my families and have always believed there is a need for services that can provide early intervention and support to families throughout New Zealand.

I enjoy getting to know each child and finding a way to work with them, their family and educators to meet their needs and goals. Building strong relationships with families, while providing fun and caring support. I work in various settings (schools, homes, kindergartens) and with a collaborative approach to therapy to help kids enjoy their therapy as they learn.

I have particular interest in working with children with mental health difficulties or past traumas. I am passionate about supporting these children and their families. By helping to identify what is meaningful to these families and providing the tools and strategies to achieve these meaningful goals.

In my spare time I enjoy the beach, walking, yoga, mindfulness, physical activity, traveling near and far, and spending time with my friends and family.
